Countryside Fire Protection DistrictAlsip Fire Department and New Lenox Fire Protection District have new permanent fixtures to show off at their fire stations — displays that show a behind-the-walls look at a residential fire sprinkler system that is installed according to NFPA 13D.

In addition to showing the different types of fire sprinklers that are available, such as sidewall, pendent, concealed, etc., the displays also show what the pipe looks like behind the wall and the riser that provides the water flow into a home. Signs on the displays call out various components of the system and explain them in depth.

Officials from the fire departments believe the displays will be a focal point for those who visit their stations, educating those who are unfamiliar with residential fire sprinklers and possibly influencing people to better protect their own homes with fire sprinkler systems.

According to Lieutenant Ron Cielek from the Countryside Fire Protection District, “The new 13D residential sprinkler exhibit will be an excellent tool to visually show residents, contractors and the general public visiting our fire station how sprinklers work as well as how they will look in their home.”

“This will help us educate the public on the numerous benefits of fire sprinklers and make the community more fire safe,” adds Alsip Deputy Chief Kevin Pickar.
