Palatine Rural FPD’s Clemmensen Installed as IAFC President and Chairman of the Board

At the Fire-Rescue International (FRI) conference in Denver, Colorado, in early August, the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) installed Hank Clemmensen, fire chief of the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District since 2001, as IAFC president and chairman of the board for 2012-2013.

According to the IAFC:

As president and chairman of the board, Chief Clemmensen will provide leadership to an 18-member board of directors for the association headquartered in Fairfax, Virgnia, and will serve as the primary spokesperson for the association on matters of national and international interest. He will testify on behalf of the IAFC at U.S. House and Senate hearings, and he will serve as the representative dignitary for the association in all major political and international functions.

In his inaugural address at FRI, he stated: “I can’t help feeling that the fire service – and the IAFC – are on the cusp of something truly great. In order to achieve that greatness though, there is much we need to do.”

Tom Lia, executive director of the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board, believes that Clemmensen has a lot of valuable insight to offer in his new position.

“Illinois’ own Chief Clemmensen has made great strides for fire and life safety throughout Illinois and within the communities he has served over the years, helping to enact a residential fire sprinkler ordinance within the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District in November 2007 and also a previous ordinance in Hoffman Estates,” notes Lia. “We know he will continue to represent the Illinois fire service well and use his local experiences to better serve the national fire service in this role.”

After his role as president, he will serve his final year of his four-year commitment with IAFC in the position of past president.
