Rick Marek Completes Presidency with Illinois Fire Inspectors Association

Rick Marek

On December 21, 2012, the Illinois Fire Inspectors Association (IFIA) hosted its holiday luncheon and swore in its new Board members, while recognizing Rick Marek for his past two years as president of the organization.

Marek came to the IFIA with a successful career already under his belt. Marek joined the Palatine Fire Department in 1988 as a firefighter/paramedic. From 1992 to 2002, he worked part-time in the fire prevention bureau and has since worked full-time in the bureau.

According to Bob Morris, executive director of the IFIA, Marek has not only continued his education through typical fire inspector classes and certification, but he has also attended specialized classes offered by carnival ride manufacturers and the fireworks industry to be more proficient in those inspections. In November 2012, Marek was promoted to fire marshal within the Palatine Fire Department, heading the entire fire prevention bureau.

With the completion of Marek’s IFIA presidency, he has now served five years on the IFIA Board and will fulfill his commitment to the Board as past president for the next year. Joey Jeraminas, who is with the Homer Township Fire Protection District, served as vice president of the IFIA and now fills Marek’s former position as president.

“I would like to congratulate Rick Marek for his exemplary dedication to the fire service and achievements while serving the IFIA for the past five years,” says Tom Lia, executive director of the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board. “His hard work has made a tremendous impact on fire safety here in Illinois.”
