Fire Sprinklers Saved Menards Store From Blaze

MORRIS, IL (June 3, 2019) –The Morris Fire Department responded to a fire at Menards in Morris around 4 a.m. on Sunday, June 2nd. Upon arrival, fire crews found that fire sprinklers contained the blaze until firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.

Morris Fire Chief Tracy Steffes said the fire was caused by a malfunctioning deep freezer and spread to some racks of dry goods causing the sprinkler to activate.

Steffes said this was an excellent example of a fire suppression system saving a building from a multi-million dollar loss.

No injuries were reported.
