Win-Bur-Sew Fire Chief Awarded for Military Service

NFSA President John Viniello and NFSA Board of Directors Chairman Gregg Huennekens recognize Chief Martin for his military service. Those also recognizing Chief Martin include David Kelly, Jamie Reap, Ed Kadlec and Cary Nicol.

Many readers of the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board’s (NIFSAB) “Fire Sprinkler Times” may remember an article in the Winter 2009 issue announcing Win-Bur-Sew Fire Chief Rob Martin’s call to active duty in Afghanistan. Now, Chief Rob Martin has returned from active duty and received recognition at a National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) – Illinois Chapter meeting in mid-January for his military service.

The certificate that we was awarded by the NFSA-Illinois Chapter and NIFSAB read, “In recognition of your devotion to our country by your unselfish tours of duty overseas during the Irag/Afghanistan wars, and for your fire safety advocacy. We all greatly appreciate what you have done for us and our country.”

According to Tom Lia, executive director of NIFSAB, “Chief Martin has been very progressive with his fire prevention advocacy. He is constantly trying to improve the fire safety codes in his community by upgrading fire sprinkler standards and participating in larger scale legislation such as the 2009 International Residential Code vote in Minneapolis.”
